Cardi B cemented her place in history, and we are here for it. The Bronx native at first made her mark with her international hit, “Bodak Yellow, ” but tonight, Bardi won her first Grammy for Best Rap Album for her debut album. While she actually, is the eighth female rapper to win a Grammy, she is the first solo femcee to take home this highly coveted award. Many swore she’d be “canceled” after her apoplectic brawl with Nicki Minaj previous September, but her March Harper’s Bazaar cover immediately silenced those whispers.

Lauryn Hill was the first to take home this award in 1997 with The Fugees’ timeless LP The Score. Lauryn’s debut album snatched Album of the Year and Best R&B Album. It’s unfortunate that many incredible female rappers have been snubbed in the past, but Invasion of Privacy and Bardi rightfully deserves this honor.
